A redundantly actuated 3 degree of freedom (xyθ) planar parallel link mechanism (PLM) with back-flip motion is proposed. The back-flip means that the end plate of the PLM has working area of 180 degrees or more. It aims at the table mechanism of multi-axes machine tools. In this paper, the condition and the working area to do the back-flip are defined. In addition, singular configuration and stiffness are analyzed by using the kinematics of the PLM. By applying numerical analyses, it has been revealed that the back-flip motion can be achieved stably (not singularity) over the working area excluding the upper limit.

Indirect laser peening is a new laser peening technique and modifies the mechanical properties of the surface of the substrate. Metal sheet protects the substrate surface from heat affect by a plasma with laser irradiation. Because the metal sheet absorbs laser energy and reduces the peening efficiency, the features of indirect laser peening for several aluminum alloys were investigated in this study. The changes of mechanical properties by indirect laser peening were discussed by the comparison to the mechanical properties of as-received state.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the potential application of the cutting in the nitrogen atmosphere. In order to clarify the effects of the nitrogen atmosphere, cutting tests were carried out on plain carbon steel S45C with carbide tool. Cutting tests were conducted in the sealed chamber of which the atmosphere was changeable. Nitrogen, argon, carbon dioxide gases and air were used as the atmosphere.

Plated alloy have been attempted to improve heat and wear resistance and insulation properties of machine parts. Particularly alloy of nickel and phosphorus(Ni-P) have benefit for the mold of glass or plastic lens which have property of highly heat and wear resistance. Ordinarily the plated Ni-P is made by a process of electroless plating. In this study, I used the plated Ni-P which made by a process of electroplating. In this process, a plated alloy can contain more amount of phosphorus. Single crystal diamond turning experiment for the cylindrical end face plated electrolytic Ni-P was carried out, and analyzed the potential of ultra precision cutting of electrolytic Ni-P and the effect of amount of content phosphorous. It was turned out that Electrolytic Ni-P have potentiality to be worked as electroless Ni-P, and to improve the surface roughness by the increase of the amount of content phosphorous.

New type of intelligent cutting tool with built-in thin film thermocouples (TFTs) was proposed. This cutting tool has many minute temperature sensors to measure the temperature distribution on the tool rake face directly. In this study, three types of cutting tools with built-in TFTs were developed. TFTs composed of Nickel and Nickel-Chrome thin films were fabricated on the rake face of the Alumina cutting insert by DC magnetron sputtering. Then Hafnium oxide film was deposited on the TFTs to insulate electrically. Finally Titanium nitride film was coated to endure cutting situation. Appropriate temperature distributions on the tool rake face including tool-chip contact area were measured by the cutting temperature experiments.

In order to manufacture highly economical and competitive, not only development of high technology but also logistic system are required. In this research a delivery system which forms a part of a logistic system is optimized by multi-agent system. The main parts of this system are a depot agents group, a delivery truck agents group and a rule agents group. The depot agent grasps the situation of goods to be delivered and requests all truck agents to bring it. The latter agents reply the possibility of practicing the task to the former agent. Finally the depot agent decides the delivery method by using appropriate rules in the rule agents group. This sequence of processes are carried out autonomously.

We developed a high-speed vision robot system that can be applied to various types of products. The developed system consists of a robot with cameras and lights, and a computer for teaching and image processing. In the system many points on any faces of the product can be inspected without stopping with the help of the developed robot path planning and the synchronous method between robot path and image input. Moreover, we developed standard inspection algorithm and unified environment for robot and vision teaching. Therefore the teaching operation can be done without programming. This system is currently in use in our plants so that it can be helpful in keeping high quality of products.
